The first China-Africa Economic Trade Expo has recently come to an end with Jiangsu enterprises emerging as one of the hot spots, whose many products have become the most popular "blockbusters" in the African market with the FIRMAN generators exhibited by SUMEC being a typical one.

Yang Yongqing, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of SUMEC, said that SUMEC's self-developed generators are very popular in Africa, especially in West Africa. It has been in the forefront of the export of similar products in China for more than 10 years, and it is truly a "blockbuster" in the African market.

It is reported that SUMEC's independently developed generators, which were first unveiled in the African market, have broken the monopoly of foreign brands in the African market. In recent years, owing to its excellent reputation in the African market, it has successfully entered the global market. The marching process of SUMEC products from Africa to Europe and the United States also witnessed the growth of both Chinese brands and the African market, holding a powerful proof to the complementarity and win-win development of China-Africa economic trade.

As compared to Europe, the United States and other mature international markets where small power generation products are regarded as home backup power sources, people in many parts of Africa use these products as a long-term main power source for the family due to practical factors such as insufficient grid coverage, and they are highly valued for their stability, efficiency and fuel economy.

Peng Yuanpu, the deputy general manager of SUMEC, said that it is due to the deep concern and keen understanding of the actual needs of African users that SUMEC's generators could catch up with their US and Japanese counterparts in the African market in a short period of time. SUMEC, in line with the characteristics of the African market, is dedicated to everything from research and development to sales and service. "Apart from developing models that adapt more to the African market in accordance with the needs of the African customer, we have also set up six after-sales centers in the locality to train a squad of permanent resident engineers to pay visits to local customers for maintenance and enter the local community for after-sales service. Besides, we also do our utmost effort to offer local customers official original accessories that are easier to buy, thereby reducing the using cost of consumers and eliminating their worries."

Now the brand image of SUMEC products has penetrated into local users and they have become the synonym of high quality, reliability and durability in the field of generation and power equipment.

While Chinese generators have illuminated African families, a cross-border transmission grid project across Senegal, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Gambia is also underway. With a total length of 1,677 kilometers, the project contains 15 substations, which are divided into 12 sub-projects. It is the combination of SUMEC Complete and Xi'an Electric Engineering Company that is responsible for the construction of the most difficult part of the project, Guinean power grid construction.

Guinea Radio and Television showed interest in SUMEC's project

Guinea Radio and Television aired a special report on the SUMEC project in May this year. The Guinean President's special envoy highly appreciated the efforts of SUMEC to promote the rapid progress of the project, and admitted that the project is of great significance to the interconnection of electric power in the four countries of West Africa, and will certainly make great contributions to ease the local power shortage in Guinea. It is bound to create more job opportunities for the local community and promote social and economic development in Guinea.

At the same time, as a Chinese company involved in the construction of the Sudan Port diesel power station, the Eritrean diesel power station, and the Somali light-wood hybrid power station in Africa, SUMEC is, when fulfilling its devotion to engineering construction, committed to provide a complete set of solutions in accordance with the actual needs of the local community from aspects such as industry resource mobilization, local enterprise cooperation, to promoting the employment of local residents, etc. All these efforts are targeted to helping the local communities be equipped with the capacity to develop independently, which helps greatly establish a good image of Chinese enterprises in Africa.

SUMEC engineers on the move

"Chinese and African enterprises are sincere partners in development, who have been helping each other for a long time for mutual benefits. There is huge potential in the African market, evidenced by SUMEC's data from this January to April showing the company's African business ranking third and remaining in a good momentum for development", said Yang Yongqing. He admitted that SUMEC will introduce a successful project construction experience in countries along the "Belt and Road" such as Vietnam and Malaysia to Africa, and also develop more new businesses in line with the market demand in Africa, for the sake of helping establish a more stable international market system as well as contribute to the local economic and social development.

It is known that China-Africa trade has grown rapidly since 2000, and China has been Africa's largest trading partner for ten consecutive years. The year of 2018 witnessed a China-Africa trade volume reaching US$204.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20%. At the same time, the trade structure continues to be optimized with the export value of Chinese mechanical and electrical products and high-tech products to Africa accounting for 56% of China's total export value to Africa.
